It's time to practice more...

I stumbled across a great Buddhist Blog (which in turn led me to like 5 more...) and I am making a choice today.
I am going to quit drinking Dr. Pepper. period.
I know- it's going to suck, I've tried before. I even stopped for 9 months once but it lured me back.
I plan to use meditation to help me. (the article is about coffee but I equate my Dr. P addiction to coffee for the regular folk)

This is the day I start to make healthy choices for my life.

One step at a time, staying in the moment as much as I can.

The best laid plans

I was going to post about how I recently ended a long-term friendship and then I open yahoo and read the news in my last post and decided it was not important anymore.

I'm moving forward to the place I'm meant to go. I'm focused on my family, my health and being a good person. The people I have chosen to surround myself with care for and support me...

What more do I need?

Damn...

Another weird week.

A friend from HS died in a car accident on Thursday & Sunday George Carlin died.

How sad.

Weather

OK- wasn't is just snowing last week? Before that it rained like daily.

I'm confused.

Anyway when I am forced inside the house by the weather...whether it is too cold, wet or hot...I get stuck playing with this box on my desk. Here are my favorite links of the moment:

Glamping??

Apparently if you have lots of money you can spend it near Missoula!

I've never really thought that the place was that spectacular (at least not from the road)

Dad

Father's Day is the day we think about what our fathers mean to us.

It's been two years and I still miss hearing Dad laugh.
I miss this smile and hearing "oh golly" when I shared any news with him.

It's the small and seemingly insignificant things which remind me most of him.

Being the youngest of 12 was his place in the Walsh clan. Although the family was large, he always seemed to be right in the middle of it. There were only two girls and they both babied him- just like any big sis would do. His brothers looked out for him too-helping him in his move to Montana.

When his time came he served his country during the Korean War- following 5 of his brothers who had served during WWII. He found things he liked by visiting the different place the Air Force sent him. He found his home here in Great Falls after only a brief stay on his way to Alaska.

He also found Mom. They spent 45 years as husband and wife after dating for 3 years. Dad would camp out at my Grandmother's house and chat with her until Mom was available- even when Mom was living in Salt Lake he visited. To the end he was very close to my Grandmother.

Together they grew a great family. Five girls to keep them busy. He never once complained that there was no boy to carry on the name. It never mattered to him. He loved us all the same. Ever the proud father.

One by one, he walked us down the aisle.

No matter how many grandkids came along he loved them all.

At the end everyone was here here to let him know that he lived a good life and had lived it well.

So, here's to you, Dad! May you be where the fishing is good and the golf great!

Remember your family loves & misses you.
We will never forget you.

Breathe

I released a lot of my anger today by meditating. I haven't for a very long time ...no really good reason other than I just didn't make the time. sad. I love how I feel after.

Today I felt like a busy mom of three again- took Son#2 to summer school orientation then picked up Step for OB orientation then dropped Son#1 at the college. nothing like being the family taxi.

I started to look at baby things. Holy crap! I think we will be garage sale-ing this summer. a lot.

I'm just going to breathe. it can't hurt.

I'm numb

For the last couple years I have been bragging on my kids- how smart they can be when they make a good decision, how cute they are, how proud I am of them in general.

All the positive things I had been saying came back & kicked me in the face Friday evening.

My baby girl told me she is pregnant. 4 tests came back positive so I don't think we'll get lucky this time.

Her bio-dad gave her a short speech and really didn't say he was upset about it. Offered for her to move to PA with him if it doesn't work out with BFD (the nickname I gave her boyfriend before this), that annoyed me.

I'm just sick.

The hubby is acting all sorts of weird to. He is all freaked out that she won't let him see the kid or something. *blinks* Huh??? WTF? Why would she stop him? He is a nice enough guy -ya' know he only paid for her life for the last 5 years!?!

It is just so weird.

I'm angry. really angry. It's just ripping my heart out.

She just doesn't get it. Neither do her friends.

I feel I'm being sucked into a vortex.

I completed one challenge but another feels like a loosing battle

I thought it would be years before I saw a Rhode Island license plate in Great Falls Montana but TODAY I DID! I had to flip a u-turn & stop 40 ft back from the light but I got it!

Then I learned that Montana added two more specialty plates! *ARRRGGGHHHHH*
Damn it I'm back to 26!!!

I had my list down to 26 total plates to finish Montana specialty plates, Canadian provinces/territories and the 50 states. So with one more specialty & the last of the 50 done I was down to 24. Damn, damn, damn.

How many feet in a meter?

There are 14 mountains over 8,000 m:

1. Everest, China/Nepal - 8,848 m
2. K2, China/Pakistan - 8,611 m
3. Kanchenjunga, India/Nepal - 8,586 m
4. Lhotse, China/Nepal - 8,516 m
5. Makalu, China/Nepal - 8,463 m
6. Cho Oyu, China/Nepal - 8,201 m
7. Dhaulagiri, Nepal - 8,167 m
8. Manaslu, Nepal - 8,163 m
9. Nanga Parbat , Kashmir Pakistan - 8,125 m
10. Annapurna, Nepal - 8,091 m
11. Gasherbrum I, China/Pakistan - 8,068 m
12. Broad Peak, China/Pakistan - 8,047 m
13. Gasherbrum II, China/Pakistan - 8,035 m
14. Shishapangma, China - 8,027 m

(Mount McKinley is only 6,194 m.)

I doubt highly that I will ever even see these other than on TV...rarely then. LOL, of course I have never heard of any but the first two.

My hubby- the mechanic

When I was dating the hubby one of the most attractive qualities he had was that he was handy & fixed things without em having to ask or at least no nag. I guess that was just another of those "dating" qualities which somehow goes away after marriage...kinda like his ability to dance. LOL

He decided to finally fix the car. The car is a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. I love it. I think we are both very happy with the car as a whole. It only has one small annoying problem- it has this clicking sound which appears after you use the turn signal. We have replaced every part the dealership suggested without any change. He finally googled the problem and found one message board which recommended cleaning the contacts. So today he cleaned them- man were they dirty!

He put everything back together and we decided to run out to Ace to pick up a new pot for my peace plant. As we back out of the driveway i notice that he keeps honking the horn. weird.

Apparently anytime he turns the wheel slightly to the left it honks!

ROFLMFAO!!!

We took the van.

He is back in the garage now cursing the car. I hope he will be able to fix it otherwise his drive to work will suck!
